Located on Privada Gonzalez Ortega,
Jocotopec, Jalisco, MX
Purpose: To provide professional education
of deaf children, to teach
them sign language, how to read, do sculpture, carpentry and arts. The organization provides all
types of hearing devices and everything related
to the enhancement of their hearing
defect. Some of the students are hearing impaired, and others suffer from Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, quadriplegia, paraplegia, autism and visual impairment. The school in Jocotopec presently serves over 100 children.
The official registered name for our organization is Escuela para Sordos de Jocotepec, A.C. We are an all-volunteer, government-registered, not-for-profit charitable organization serving the Lake Chapala area in Mexico. We are audited annually by the state of Jalisco's directorate of charities (IJAS).
Recently a very significant donation of 25,000 pesos was made to The School for the Deaf and Children with Special Needs by Fernando Gomez and Steve Cross who own the Casa Flores Bed and Breakfast in Ajijic Village. This generous donation will help the School support the 96 children who attend it. This donation will go a long way to meet the School's 35,000 pesos a month basic operating costs. It comes at a particularly good time since more than 100,000 pesos have been spent in the first 8 months of 2011 improving the school's facilities, and more work needs to be done.
But the gift of 25,000 pesos is not the end of the b&b owners' story. In addition to that, Steve and Fernando have pledged $5,000 pesos a month to the School for the Deaf for the next year!
